Coincidence of Opposites

to stare at her
for hours
while her shadow begins
to curl like trunks of smoke
on the wooden floor

to escape the heavy
brief pale
gaze of
strangers

to be close to her
as close tangled
irreversible
as hours are to years

to hear her voice
like the hieroglyph
of a flower
carved into the
speech of rocks

to touch her eyes
when the walls of the world
become calm timorous
mirrors

to face each other
and collide like antonyms
in the swelling unity
of love

Hoy, cuando pensé

Hoy, cuando pensé
en la muerte
no me enfoqué
en como sería no existir
ni si llegaría cuando
estoy mirando por la ventana
o si descendería en un martes
o un miércoles

más bien
pensé en los que ya murieron

pensé
en que algunos han muerto tristes
otros han muertos satisfechos
que mil cosas
pudieron haber hecho diferente
en la vida
pero que ya nada importa

pensé
‘una vez muerto, ya nada importa’

ahora pienso
si me tocará ese día
estar triste o feliz;
y considero que no
hay mucho que pueda hacer hoy
para influenciar
la sentencia

lo único que me queda
es escribir poemas
dormir con una panza
llena de vino
y esperar el juicio
de los días restantes.

a mystic’s bed

then I found myself
stepping on the mushy
nodes of matter
first cobblestones
then grass
finally the helical
steps of a cloud

it was no longer
vague intuition
but pure palpable
fact :

this is a dream

the arc of night
laid its arm
round my shoulder

both my eyes
puckered
to buss the black sky

there was love
dark and murmuring

my heart drunk
on the delirious flavor
of the stars

the straws of space
nested my body
and fell asleep
while the cars below
flashed in gushing fleets

me senté en un templo

Me senté
en un templo

elevaste un canto
las aves en vuelo
el rubor del amanecer
los retozos del mar

una voz
de piedra blanca
piel fría
colina asoleada

quedé postrado
como un pagano
frente una canción
que goteaba como miel
sobre los ramos amargos
de mi alma

miré el mármol
de las estatuas
los ojos del santo

olvidé mi intención
de correr por los callejones
en búsqueda de un placer fútil

descanse mi vista
en la tímida luz de una candela

descanse
en los verbos mudos
que cantan los ángeles

todo saber
se extinguió
bajo una lluvia
de aleluyas

y luego
hubo
silencio

how old

How old
must I become
to return to the selfless
heaviness of the rock

has not the wind
that levels the tiny
sands of time
swept over
the last corner
of my life

must I continue
to stare
at the leaves
that shiver
purposelessly
on the sunlit tree

must I continue
to desist action
below the shadow
of a pigeon
that springs to flight

must the city
become soft
as the pages
of history
that I keep on
forgetting

how old must this
memory become
to fall silent at last
as the man behind
the mirror

how   old

Existential Poetry

dumb poet

It is no hard task
to sit with a book
& glass of wine
all night
waiting perchance
the end of all events;
patiently becoming
dumber by the words
and wiser by the wine;
serene and slumberous
in the certainty
that all things will perish
today, next morning
or in a thousand years.

la sombra del olvido

Toda la realidad
se contrae en
una gota

la bebo
la lloro

empiezo a olvidar
que tengo ojos,
el movimiento que veo
se torna en el eco del olor

empiezo a olvidar
que mi piel siente las cosas,
lo tangible se torna en acordes
atrapados en el claustro
de mi brevedad

empiezo a olvidar
que los oídos tienen voz,
solamente veo las huellas
que deja el viento
en la arena de mi orejas

empieza a nacer
una borona de tierra
debajo de mi lengua,
suelta raíces con sabor a cielo
y despliega una flor
que la protege
el techo de mi voz

toda la realidad
se encoje a una esencia

la sujeto
con mi

olvido.

the last moment

within the
last moment

when you lift
existence
as a weightless
fish in your hands

when the road
becomes your tail
shivering
as the endless
echo of the earth

when nothing else
shall come
and the eyes dance
as flies in the darkest air

within the last
pause of perception

when
the blood becomes
still as the shadow
on the ground;

a white butterfly

leaves your mouth
to be carried away
by the gale of

silence

Nihilistic Poetry

a realist

élan vital poetry

I found
the shadow
carpeted with
ache

I couldn’t
leave the
island of my
skin

unable
to break and free
as a sky without
zenith, I sunk
into a low and
blue tear

then morning hung
as the erotic
fluvial voice

this mouth is a gash
that never heals
thrusting verbs as blood
in the bloating thought

I look down
to find my shape
covered in otherness

I was there
alloyed WITH
the world

like
the élan and heart
together

in immeasurable desire.
